Faults we fix
Common treadmill problems
What you notice, what usually causes it, and what we do about it.
| What you notice | Likely cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Belt slips or jerks under your feet | A loose or worn belt, or a dry running deck. | We tension and align the belt, lubricate the deck, or fit a new belt. |
| Belt drifts to one side | The rear roller is out of alignment. | We track the belt back to centre and check the rollers. |
| Will not start, or stops mid-run | The safety key, a tripped breaker, worn motor brushes or the motor control board. | Step-by-step tests from the key to the motor, then the fix. |
| Speed or incline will not change | A speed sensor, the incline motor or the console. | Sensor, motor and console tests and repair. |
| Console dead or showing an error | A loose console cable, a failed display board, or power surge damage. | Cable and board checks, plus surge protection advice. |
| Burning smell or squealing | The belt dragging on a dry deck, worn roller bearings, or an overheating motor. | Stop using it. We find the cause before it damages the motor. |
| Deck cracked or feels soft | A worn running deck. | Deck turned over or replaced. |
Servicing
Treadmill maintenance
A treadmill wears with every kilometre. Regular servicing keeps the belt running smoothly and protects the motor and board, the expensive parts.
- Check belt tension and tracking
- Lubricate the running deck
- Vacuum the motor compartment
- Check motor brushes and drive belt
- Inspect rollers and bearings
- Tighten the frame and test the safety key and stop button
How often: Every 6 months at home. Every 1 to 3 months in a gym, depending on use.
Before you call: quick checks
Check the safety key is clipped in fully.
Reset the breaker or switch on the treadmill itself, often near the power cable.
Plug it into a surge protector. Power cuts and surges are a common cause of board failures.
If it smells of burning, unplug it and do not run it.

Questions
Treadmill repair questions
How often should a treadmill belt be lubricated?
It depends on the model and how much it is used. As a guide, every three months at home and more often in a busy gym. Too much lubricant is as bad as too little, so follow the manual or ask us.
Do you service gym treadmills?
Yes. We service treadmills in commercial gyms, hotels and offices, and can come before opening or after closing.
My treadmill smells of burning. Can I keep using it?
No. Unplug it. A burning smell usually means the belt is dragging on a dry deck or the motor is overheating, and running it can damage the motor or board.
Can you replace a treadmill belt?
Yes. We measure your belt and fit the right size, then tension and track it.
