Servicing

Microwave maintenance

A microwave needs little servicing, but restaurants and offices that run one all day get more life from a quick check.

  • Clean the cavity and waveguide cover
  • Check the door seal, latch and hinges
  • Test the door interlock switches
  • Check the turntable motor and roller ring
  • Check the power cable and plug
  • Test that it heats evenly

How often: Once a year at home. Every 3 to 6 months in restaurants and offices.

Before you call: quick checks

  1. Try another socket. A loose plug or tripped socket looks like a dead microwave.

  2. Open and close the door firmly. A door switch that does not click stops the microwave starting.

  3. Check the turntable is sitting on its coupler and roller ring.

  4. If you see sparks, stop it straight away and check for metal, foil or a gold rim on the dish.

Microwave repair questions

Is it worth repairing a microwave?

Often, yes. Door switches, fuses, turntable motors and waveguide covers are cheap. If the magnetron or board has failed on a small, cheap model, we tell you honestly if a new one makes more sense.

Can you fix a microwave that sparks?

Usually. Most sparking comes from a burnt waveguide cover or damaged paint inside, which we replace or repair.

Do you repair built-in microwaves?

Yes. We take them out of the cabinet carefully, repair them and refit them.

Do you repair microwaves for restaurants?

Yes, and we can service several units in one visit.
